Rome Pre-Cruise: What to see and do before your cruise?

Date 2013.09.23 by romecabs in Museums and Culture, Travel Tips and Advice

Buon giorno, and welcome to Rome Cabs Travel Blog.

.

Many people ask: What is there to do on a pre-cruise stay in Rome?

.

Most cruisers booked for a cruise from Civitavecchia arrive in Rome a day or so early to take in the sights of the Eternal City before they embark on their cruise.

Usually check in for the cruise takes place around 3 PM (always check with your cruise line for check in time, as some cruise lines vary).

So what can you do in the morning in Rome before heading to Civitavecchia? PLENTY!

Below we offer you 2 options to make the most out of your morning in Rome pre-cruise:

.

=====================================

OPTION 1

.

ROME: SIGHTSEEING ON YOUR OWN

.

Colosseum and Roman Forum (Panoranic Views)

.

You can do some sightseeing on your own depending on where in Rome you are staying.

~ If you are staying near the Colosseum, you can visit the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Most visitors who don’t have all day to devote to sightseeing only need about an hour to visit each site.

~ If you are staying near the Vatican, you can visit the Vatican on your own in the morning. Usually you can touch on the highlights of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica in 2-3 hours.

.

Vatican Museums (Vatican)

.

Having a private tour guide on this tour really helps enhance your experience….not only are the Vatican Museums a vast labyrinth of halls and galleries, but you don’t want to miss the most important works of art while wandering around where there is least to see.  A private tour guide will also take you through the Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica so your Vatican experience is complete.

My Rome Guides offer private walking tours to the Vatican as well as Ancient Rome, and they are locally licensed tour guides (be sure that if you book a tour guide in Italy they are professionally licensed and carry a badge)

Always be sure to purchase your tickets to the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum online or by phone in advance to avoid the time wasting long lines.

~ If you are staying near the famous squares, you can take a stroll to Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain or the Spanish Steps.

.

Trevi Fountain (Rome in A Day Tour)

.

If you are booked with a private car service company, you don’t want to leave Rome later than 1 PM as it takes about 90 minutes to reach Civitavecchia from Rome by car.

OPTION 2

.

PRE-CRUISE ROME TOUR AND TRANSFER TO CIVITAVECCHIA

.

Colosseum (Rome)

.

However, if you wish to get the most out of your morning in Rome before heading to your cruise ship, Rome Cabs Limousine Car Service offer a Rome Pre-Cruise Tour with Transfer to Civitavecchia combination so you have all your sightseeing and transfer needs taken care of together.

It’s very simple and convenient with 9 AM pick up from your hotel, 4 hours of sightseeing in Rome, and then off you go to Civitavecchia to begin your cruise! As you will be traveling with your luggage, you don’t have to waste time returning to your hotel to pick up your belongings.

The most popular sites in Rome in the Pre-Cruise tour are the Colosseum (with a visit inside the monument), the Pantheon,  Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain (don’t forget to throw in your coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure a return visit to Rome!)…and a proper farewell to Rome from the terrace in Piazza Garibaldi on Janiculum hill so you can bid the Eternal City arrivederci!

.

Spanish Steps (Rome in A Day Tour)

.

In case you’ve already seen some of these sites already, don’t worry…with so much to see and do in Rome you’ll run out of time before running out of exciting things to see.

Even if your time in Rome before your cruise is brief, with Rome Cabs’ Pre-Cruise Tour with Transfer you will have the opportunity to squeeze in as much fun in Rome as time allows, all in the comfort of your own private deluxe vehicle and personal English speaking tour driver at your disposal.
