Your morning will begin with a scenic drive traversing the beautiful countryside into the heart of Umbria towards the Orvieto region which is well regarded for its fine wines. Explore the ancient city of ORVIETO

Dramatically settled on the summit of a large volcanic tufa rock, Orvieto overlooks the beguiling Umbrian countryside comprised of vineyards, olive orchards, cypress trees, and dense forests. Orvieto is also an ancient town of Etruscan origins, delighting visitors with its charming and well-preserved medieval setting. 

While in Orvieto, relish a glorious lunch savoring specialties of the Umbrian region at a local restaurant of your choice.  After lunch, appreciate time on your own for a stroll along wide pedestrian-friendly streets lined with inviting shops brimming with stunning hand-crafted and hand-painted ceramics, various gastronomic boutiques and cafes.  Throughout Orvieto, you will also find wine shops (enoteche ) that offer additional wine tasting opportunities and sell a variety of local wines.

Not to be missed in Orvieto is the late 13th century Gothic Cathedral of Orvieto, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin.  It took 30 years to plan the cathedral and 300 years to reach its current splendor. The cathedral’s splendent seven-story facade is bejeweled with mosaics that shimmer in the afternoon sunlight, decorated with dark green and white marble stripes and carvings, and adorned with niches that frame life-size sculpted figures.

 

Dramatic frescoes have transformed the cathedral into a museum that boasts a treasure trove of masterpieces by famous artists of that time such as Luca Signorelli and Fra Angelico.

CANCELLATION POLICY

We kindly ask that cancellations be made via E-mail at least 7 days prior to Date of Service. 

Cancellations are accepted only via E-mail so your cancellation is on record. We do not accept cancellations by phone, text message, or 3rd parties.

** Cancelations for PREPAID SERVICES will be refunded the Reduced Net Rate we receive from your prepayment.  Reduced Net Rate: actual service price minus PayPal/Credit Card fees retained by PayPal/Credit Card as they do not reimburse us the fees they retain from your payment.

WINE TASTING IN UMBRIA: Prices, information:

This winery visit includes approximately 1.5 hours of moderate walking/standing. You will find uneven natural surfaces on this estate.

The winery visit is booked in accordance with the winery’s fixed visit schedule which is between 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

Standard winery visit and wine tasting fees: approximately 40 Euros Per Person payable directly to the winery. 

Winery fees are NOT included in our tour fee in order to offer flexibility and accommodate guests who cannot partake in wine tasting.  Winery Fees are subject to change without notice.

Winery visits must be booked in advance and are subject to availability. In the event that this winery is not available on your tour date, you have the option to substitute this winery with a different winery of a similar rank.

Casual, weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable walking footwear is recommended. Participants must be of legal drinking age (18 years)  to partake in wine tasting.

Meeting Point at Rome ROME HOTEL / ACCOMMODATION:

Your driver will meet you inside the lobby of your hotel or in areas permitted by hotels.

For Apartments or B&Bs without a lobby, your driver will meet you outside the main entrance of your Pick Up Address.

* If your hotel or accommodation is on a street or in an area restricted to vehicle traffic, your driver will park as close as lawfully possible and meet you on foot at your Address, and accompany you to your parked vehicle.

YOUR PRIVATE TOUR DRIVER

This Wine Tasting Tour to Umbria provides an English-speaking Driver who is NOT a licensed tour guide or a sommelier.

Italian laws permit only licensed tour guides to accompany guests to sightsee on foot away from the vehicle.

In order to comply with Italian laws, drivers are obliged by law to remain with the vehicle while guests sightsee on foot.  Drivers are happy to offer basic touristic information while at the vehicle, however you will SELF TOUR on your own when away from the vehicle.

Information about wines and wine productions can be provided by the winemakers at the winery, and at wine shops you may wish to visit in Orvieto.

How to Taste Wine / 5 Wine Tasting Tips:

• SEE - See the color, depth, and intensity of the wine in your glass.  The color also indicates the types of grapes used or if the wine was aged in wood.
• SWIRL:  Swirling aerates the wine and allows oxygen to “open it up” revealing its complexities
• SNIFF/ SMELL - It’s essential to sniff the wine before tasting it as a wine’s quality can be judged by its aroma.
• SIP - Take a larger than normal sip and hold it in your mouth for 3-5 seconds to taste the characteristics of the wine’s flavor: sweetness, bitterness, fruitiness, alcohol...
• SAVOR - The taste doesn’t just end once you swallow the wine. The finish is the duration of time the essence of the wine lingers and stays with you. A long finish is ideal, especially when the overall taste of the wine leaves you craving another sip.
