Buon giorno and welcome to Stefano’s RomeCabs, Rome’s leading company for Rome seaport transfers and tours.
Rome’s seaport is located in the city of Civitavecchia (literally means “ancient town”), about 37 miles northwest of the city of Rome. Civitavecchia is old indeed…. The modern-day city was constructed on top of a pre-existing ancient Etruscan settlement, and the harbor was founded by Roman Emperor Trajan in the early 2nd century AD.
Each year, Civitavecchia welcomes more than 2,000 ferries and cruise ships for almost 2 million passengers – thus ranking as the 3rd busiest cruise port in the Mediterranean.
Civitavecchia is a major departure port for various cruisers, as well as a popular stop for shore excursions on European and Mediterranean cruises with itineraries in Italy (as well as Livorno and Naples cruise ports).
When departing, arriving or docking in Civitavecchia, you will likely require transfers to and from your Cruise Ship, or Shore Excursions (Sea Port Tours) from your Cruise Ship to enjoy a day exploring the region.
Possibilities for private Civitavecchia transfers to and from Rome seaport in Civitavecchia include:
Stefano’s RomeCabs offer private transfers between FCO Airport and Civitavecchia, as well as between Rome and Civitavecchia. You simply book online and you are all set! You have nothing more to worry about.
Below are some helpful tips when booking Rome Sea Port - Civitavecchia Cruise Tours and Transfers in Italy.
(if you arrive in Italy on the same day your ship departs from the Rome sea port)
On average, it takes up to 1 hour for most passengers to exit the airport after clearing customs and collecting their luggage.
Travel time from Fiumicino Airport to Civitavecchia is about 1 Hour.
If your only option is to arrive in Italy on the same day as your cruise departs, choose a flight that arrives in the morning to allow you extra time in case you miss your flight, experience flight delays, or experience delays in customs or baggage claims.
If you cut your arrival time too close to your ship's departure time, any small delay can place you at risk of missing your ship.
(if you will be staying in Rome pre-cruise)
On average, it takes about 1.5 hours to travel from Rome to Civitavecchia.
The most recommended pick-up times from Rome to Civitavecchia are between 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
By leaving Rome too early in the morning (such as before 11 AM) you arrive too early at your ship and they may not be ready for embarkation yet. The pier area is not a convenient place to wait.
By leaving Rome too late in the afternoon (such as after 1 PM), you risk arriving too late to your ship if you experience any unpredictable traffic delays in and around Rome, or on your way to Civitavecchia.
(if you will be staying in Rome post-cruise)
If you are going to Rome post-cruise, the most recommended pick-up time from the cruise ship is 8:00 – 9:00 AM as most cruisers are disembarked during that time frame.
Civitavecchia to FCO / Fiumicino Airport (if you will be departing on a flight on the same day your ship arrives at the Rome seaport)
To avoid risks of missing your flight, it is recommended to book flights out of Fiumicino Airport no earlier than 11:00 AM to allow enough safe time in case your ship docks late, or if you encounter any traffic delays on your way to FCO Airport.
Why just sit in your hotel in the morning waiting for time to pass until it’s time to leave for the cruise port, and then sit in the car for 1.5 hours for an uneventful drive until you arrive at your ship….when you can instead enjoy a fun filled morning exploring some of Rome’s and the Roman Countryside’s most spectacular places for an unforgettable pre cruise experience?
